Boys’ JV Basketball Recap 2009-2010
Season
The boys JV basketball team finished 10-6, with wins against each of the other MAPL schools. The team worked hard throughout the year, showed great sportsmanship, and represented themselves and Blair with class and dignity.
The team was led by its juniors, five of whom are finishing
their third year of Blair basketball. The undisputed leaders of the team were
junior Co-captains Luke Parauda and Travis Kittle. Luke lead the team in scoring,
blocks, rebounds, and dunks while Travis was the backbone of our team with
his incredible intensity, hustle, desire, and knowledge of the game. Ted Peacock
has morphed from a skinny guard as a freshman to a skinny post player as a
junior, and his intensity, teamwork and great shot were certainly as asset
to us. Dan Lavanant remained a positive presence who could always be counted
on to make 3’s and to keep the team upbeat with his sense-of-humor and great school-meeting announcements. Alan Meskin suffered a tough injury last year, but bounced back this year as a valuable role player who could play both post and wing when needed. We were delighted that junior Spencer Beriont decided to play basketball this year, as he brought an incredible energy and athleticism and was generally our first player off the bench. New juniors Ben Brandreth and Matt Pierce were invaluable to our team as well. Ben was a gifted scorer who played both post and wing, and also started some games, while Matt was a hard-nosed player who pushed the starters in practice and scored 8 points in our final game.
All teams need to build for the future, and we are fortunate
to have so many young players make an impact this year. All three of our starting
guards were sophomores and have a strong chance to be varsity contributors
next year. Point Guard Nick Flora was relentless in his defensive pressure
and led the team in assists. Yonnie Reichel was our “Mr. Clutch,” who was equally capable of handling the point or playing off the ball and has a great basketball future. Shooting guard Rob Britt brought energy, defensive intensity, and a stellar 3 point shot (19 3 pointers in our last 7 games). Additionally, forward Joe Geller was our most improved player and we are excited to add him to the starting lineup next year. Ray Huang and George Green are tough and athletic guards, who contributed to the team in many ways. We would be fortunate to have them as starters next year.
No summary of the JV team would be complete without mentioning
our outstanding managers. Dan DeTogni has forever set the standard by which
other managers will be measured, both in terms of his knowledge of the game
and his ability to help us in practice. We look forward to having him as a
playing member of the team next year. Soomin Kay’s sense of humor and laid-back attitude were always a source of enjoyment and we appreciated the volunteer efforts of Alex Forte who contributed her time to helping out with statistics during several of our games.
It was a very enjoyable year and all of our players are to
be commended for their talent, their sportsmanship, and their success.
