9/6/08 – The field hockey team completed a successful week of preseason training. The team looks highly motivated and very athletic. It will be lead by senior captains Jenna Lubliner and Walker Pinney. Four year team member, Kara Stessl will once again lead the defense from the goal. Team members are excited to work with newcomers, Julia Brackup '12, Michelle Fox '12, Sarah Loveys '10 and Harriet Wever '10. We look forward to our next scrimmage on September 8th and to the improvements we will make before our season opener on the 17th of September.

 

9/17/08 - In an extremely competitive game against Newark Academy, the field hockey team came up just short, falling 1-0 in their season opener. Both teams had many opportunities at the goal, but Newark scored with 8:03 remaining in the second half. The team rallied in the final minutes of the game with two shots just wide of the post. Senior goal keeper, Kara Stessl recorded 16 saves for the day.

 

 

9/22/08 - The field hockey team played another close match yesterday against Wallkill Valley, ultimately falling 3-4 in OT. Blair opened the scoring in the first half when Walker Pinney connected on a goalie rebound. Wallkill answered, and the score stood 1-1 at half time. Wallkill opened the scoring in the second half, but Blair tied it up when Walker Pinney scored at the post on a cross from Jenna Lubliner. Jenna Lubliner then scored with 5:55 remaining in the game to put the score at 3-2 Blair. With 12 seconds remaining in regulation, Wallkill scored to tie the game and push it into overtime. They went on to win with 6:44 left in a ten minute sudden victory OT.

 

 

9/24/08 - The field hockey team earned its first win on Wednesday over Notre Dame Academy with a final score of 3-1. Walker Pinney opened the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal. Jaime Napurano scored the second goal off an assist from Jenna Lubliner. The bucs' final goal was scored when Tori Brennan drove the ball out of the defensive end straight up field to Jackie Carter. Jackie beat the goalie one on one in a picture perfect offensive effort. Grace Esposito's defensive performance was notable, and Kara Stessl had nine saves.

 

9/27/08 - Walker Pinney scored and was assisted by Jenna Lubliner in Blair’s 6-1 loss on Saturday. Kara Stessl had 11 saves on the day.  The Bucs will look to rebound as they face Mercersburg this Saturday. 

 

10/4/08 - The field hockey team came together and put forth a commendable effort against Mercersburg (8-2). Mercersburg opened the scoring early in the game with a corner play. Jackie Carter (assisted by freshman, Julia Brackup) answered their goal to tie the score at 1-1. Mercersburg scored the final goal of the first half with 15:57 remaining on the clock. Blair's defense fought with a focused resolve in the second half to keep Mercersburg out of the net; they had 21 shots, and only one found its way in. Kara Stessl had 26 saves.

 

10/6/08 - The field hockey team's defense was once again put to the test in a tight match with Pope John (6-4) on Monday. Though Pope John recorded 28 shots, the game remained scoreless until they were able to connect with 11:01 remaining in the game. Kara Stessl had 26 saves, and the defensive line, of Grace Esposito, Sidney Kamolvathin, Jenna Lubliner and Tori Brennan put forth an unparalleled effort.  

 

10/8/08 - In another heartbreaking match-up, Blair fell to North Warren (6-3-1) 0-1 on Wednesday. This was the Bucs' fourth match that was decided by a single goal. Once again, the defense, led Sidney Kamolvathin and Kara Stessl stepped up to the plate. Kara recorded 20 saves and Sidney blocked multiple drives on the cage. Despite numerous opportunities, Blair was unable to connect on offense. North Warren scored the winning goal with 1:53 remaining on the game.

 

10/11/08 - The Blair field hockey team played an exciting game against Hun, which ended in a tie despite overtime play. After 50 minutes of scoreless action, Hun scored off a corner play with 8:32 left in the match. Blair, determined not to fall 1-0 for a third game in a row quickly rallied and scored with 7:20 remaining in the game off a corner play of their own. Jenna Lubliner scored the game tying goal; she was assisted by Jackie Carter. Kara Stessl had 16 saves.

 

10/14/08 - Blair fell to a strong Stuart team 5-0 on Wednesday. Despite a few opportunities at the cage, Blair could not connect to score. Kara Stessl recorded 16 saves.

 

10/18/08Blair varsity field hockey lost to Lawrenceville on Saturday. Kara Stessl recorded 23 saves.

 

 

JV Field Hockey mid-season recap:

 

The JV Field Hockey team has been improving steadily every day in the face of tough competition.  Captains Julia Berkowitz and Yasmeen Moorman are consummate leaders by example, always working hard and encouraging their teammates. Tough freshman goalkeeper Jeana Berkowitz has made great strides in the cage, racking up numerous saves in every game. Starting defenders Emily Ford, Hannah Kirby, Meredith Berry-Toon and Claire Daddino have shown great strength and determination under constant fire.  Midfielders Sydney Cordero, Mary-Kate Heaney, Celeen Hefele, Halie Craig and Amanda Devine continue to work hard at supporting their attack while recovering back to play defense.  Attackers Anu Akinbamidele, Ami Saito, Brittany Liva and Alex Forte are becoming a strong offensive unit. The team is still seeking its first win and very much looks forward to overcoming Peddie on Peddie Day!
