Second City Offers Master Class

Star-Ledger reporter Allison Freeman interviews master class students to gain their reaction to improvisational workshop.

Seventeen theatre students participated in a master class with cast members Jen Bills and Frank Caeti of Second City National Touring Company this past March. Second City, which trained such comics as Alan Arkin, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Joan Rivers and Dan Aykroyd, sent its touring troupe to Blair for an evening performance for the public in Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts and offered an afternoon master class to students as well.

The improvisational workshop session taught the students how to act on impulse and perform theater without the use of scenery, props or costumes A reporter and photographer from New Jersey’s largest newspaper, The Star-Ledger (Newark) also attended the master class. An article later appeared in the Ledger’s “Young and Talented” section on April 3, recounting the experience of those New Jersey students who participated in the session.
