Second City Touring Company Comes to Blair

The Second City National Touring Company presented “A Night of Comedy” on March 26 at 7:30 pm in the sold-out DuBois Theatre of the Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts. Second City’s performance was the third act in the four-part Center Stage at Blair Series. Earlier this academic year, students and friends were treated to performances by The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Tom Chapin. “An Evening With Arlo Guthrie” on April 20 will be the fourth and final performance of the series.

Blair’s own faculty member, Steven Kampmann, a Second City alumnus, introduced the troupe and joined them on stage for some improv at the end of the show.

Established in 1959, the Second City has trained such illustrious alumni as Alan Arkin, Shelly Berman, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Joan Rivers, Dan Aykroyd, Martin Short and John Candy.

The five-member ensemble and a musical accompanist presented a blend of classic scenes, songs and improvisations that combine the best material from the Second City’s archives with original material from today’s brightest comic performers.

The troupe has appeared before sold-out crowds around the world, performing at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Mayfest in Glasgow, Scotland and countless universities and performing arts centers.
