Duo’s Determination Takes Them to the Top

“I like to be considered avant-garde; that’s kind of hip,” said Tim “Little T” Sullivan ’95 who, along with Mike Flannery, forms the group Little T and One Track Mike. Tim and Mike spoke and performed on April 30 in Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts as part of the Society of Skeptics lecture series. Tim was interviewed by both The Star-Ledger and a local paper, The Knowlton News, this past November.

The Ledger’s Jay Lustig told how the hip-hop duo “with an eclectic sound and frequently humorous lyrics” competed in the avant-garde category of the ninth annual Asbury Music Awards, held in August at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J.; after all, there was no rap category to enter. That same month, the group’s debut album, “Fome is Dape” was released by Atlantic Records’ subsidiary, Lava.

Their first single, “Shaniqua,” was based on Tim’s experience in his dorm at Rutgers University where he met his partner, Mike. Apparently Tim received more than his share of annoying phone calls asking to speak to the person who previously lived there. The calls were such a nuisance, they became the basis for the single which has appeared in video format on MTV.
