Blair Academy Bartow Series Presents HESPERUS

On Thursday, October 24th, HESPERUS presented “American Roots” in the DuBois Theatre of Armstong-Hipkins Center for the Arts as part of Blair Academy’s Bartow Series.

Described as “innovative, historically informed, and multi-cultural,” the three performers of HESPERUS—Tina Chancey, Scott Reiss and Grant Herreid— presented a concert and demonstration of instruments and music before, during and after the American Revolution. Using such instruments as the viol, fiddle, recorder, whistle, hammered dulcimer, lute, early guitar and cittern, HESPERUS illustrated the influences of the English, Scottish, Irish and French in early American music.

Named after former Blair music teacher and composer Nevett Bartow, the Bartow Series is a program endowed with the mission to expand the artistic experiences of Blair students by bringing professional performers from far and wide to the Blair stage. For more information about the Bartow Series, or if you are interested in bringing a group to the Blair stage, please contact Christopher Eanes at (908) 362-6121 extension 5670.
