A total of nine Blair wrestlers claimed All-American honors at what many consider to be the two most prestigious high school wrestling competitions in the United States. Hudson Taylor ('05) placed 3rd at 160 pounds and Alex Maciag ('04) placed 7th at 171 pounds in the freestyle division of the Advocare Cadet (16 & under) National Championships at North Dakota State University.
Robbie Preston ('03) and Zack Esposito ('02) highlighted Blair's best-ever showing at the Asics/Vaughan Junior (19 & under) National Championships in freestyle by winning national titles at 119 pounds and 152 pounds respectively. Joining Robbie and Zack as Junior All-Americans were: Max Meltzer ('02) 3rd at 135, Ryan Davis ('03) 3rd at 145, Mark Perry ('03) 2nd at 160, Kurt Backes ('02) 3rd at 189, and Matt Maciag ('03) 4th at 189.
Four other Blair wrestlers competed in the freestyle division of the tournaments and performed quite well but fell short of reaching the All-American round. Adam Frey ('05) went 5-2 at 125 pounds in the Cadet tournament. In the Junior division Zach Weisberg ('03) went 2-2 at 125 pounds, Mark Bogart went 3-2 at 125 pounds and Matt Veres went 4-2 at 160 pounds.
This year's tournaments were the largest ever in terms of participation with over 4,000 athletes representing 46 states and Puerto Rico.
