Melanie Person and The Life of a Dancer

Melanie Person, teacher at the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, spoke about her life as a dancer as part of the Society of Skeptics lecture series on November 12, 2002 in Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts.

Ms. Person spoke about experiences from her life as a ballet dancer which began at a very young age. She also talked about her move to New York City as a young teenager to attend the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Ms. Person continued with the company for many years and performed all over the world. After being away from dance for some time, she was approached by both the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey Dance Company to teach classical dance. This is where she remains today, sharing and inspiring her young students with her talent and love of dance.

Ms. Person ended her visit with a dance demonstration, teaching Blair’s dance students a small routine as well as some coordination exercises. (Click on photos to view larger.)
