No Boundaries on Exhibit in Romano Gallery
Marlene Druhan will exhibit No Boundaries, a collection of paintings and multimedia works, in the Romano Gallery of the Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts from November 10 to December 18, with an artists reception open to the public on Thursday, November 13, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Druhan described her current exhibit: No Boundaries is a versatile collection of fine and visionary art, peppered with abstracts. The series represents the struggle, potential and beauty of the human soul, beyond boundaries and limitation. I chose not to use frames in this series, allowing the viewer to interact with each painting, removing the physical, mental and metaphorical chasm. The result is an invigorating glimpse into the heavens or into the abyss.
Druhan was raised in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and spent her teens and young adulthood in Blairstown, N.J. She said, I cannot remember a time when art was not part of my life. My mother, a songwriter and poet, encouraged my creativity as soon as I could hold a pen or reach the piano keys. I followed my own path of discovery and inspiration, which excluded instruction in any of the arts. I remain a self-educated artist challenging the boundaries.
Druhan considers herself a multimedia artist, combining words, images and music in multimedia art exhibits and multimedia books. Her work is available for private commissions and collection. She employs pastels and acrylic, using techniques for both that resemble oil. She also uses pen and ink, watercolor and creates jewelry from found materials. Druhans poetic works and instrumental music will also be available during the time of her exhibition at Blair Academy.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information on this exhibit, please call Rita Baragona, chair of the fine arts department, at (908) 362-6121, ext. 5692.
