Louie Crew on Inclusion in the Episcopal Church
Louie Crew, Professor Emeritus at Rutgers University, spoke about the election of an openly gay Episcopal bishop as part of the Society of Skeptics lecture series on January 13, 2004, in Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts.
Mr. Crew supported the controversial election of an the openly gay Bishop Robinson in the Episcopal Church, claiming that it is yet another change whose time has come (women as religious leaders, etc.) In 1974, he founded a gay Episcopal group called Integrity, a nonprofit organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender [GLBT] Episcopalians. Integrity has been the leading grassroots voice for the full inclusion of GLBT persons in the Episcopal Church.
Mr. Crew is a writer, poet, and a well-known collector and disseminator of statistics and little-known facts about the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion. He received his B.A. from Baylor University in 1958, his M.A. from Auburn University in 1959 and his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in 1971.
