Interactive Art Installation by Alumni

Kevin Kennedy ’98 and Charles Shedden ’98, the featured artists in a collaborative exhibit in the Romano Gallery from May 16 through June 18, were on hand for an artists’ reception in May. The artists describe the exhibit as “an interactive, Blair-centric installation.” More a conceptual event than a traditional display of paintings or sculpture, the exhibit integrates elements from the Blair community (expect to see anything from long unused school desks to contributions from current students) and invites response from both students and the public.

According to Rita Baragona, chair of the fine arts department, who taught both artists, conceptual art is based on an idea rather than an object and usually integrates aspects of popular culture. “An art installation is site-specific, designed for a particular art space,” she explained. “The visitor to the gallery is surrounded by the art, and it is experienced rather than simply viewed.”

Kevin earned a B.F.A. from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts in Boston. He has participated in several group shows in Boston. Charles earned a B.A. from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science of Art in New York City and has participated in group and solo shows in New York.
