Students and Teachers Enjoy European Art Trip

Over Spring Break, art history teacher Julianne Frisbie and 23 Blair students headed to Europe for an art tour. History teacher Ryan Pagotto ’97 and math teacher Kate Young also went along as chaperones. The group started in London where they spent two days on a guided tour of the city, including a stop at St. Paul’s and ending with the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. They toured The National Gallery and the Tate Modern as well.

The group then headed to Paris via the underwater Chunnel where they enjoyed the Louvre Museum for a few hours. The next day they took a guided tour of the city, stopping at the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame before heading to Versailles for an afternoon. Next, the group headed to Florence on an overnight train where they toured the Duomo, the Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce. The group made it to Rome just in time to see the Vatican Museums and The Sistine Chapel before they closed for Palm Sunday. The group also explored St. Peter’s, the Coliseum and the Roman Forum on a guided tour.

In Southern Italy, the group took a tour of the ancient city of Pompeii, drove along the coast to Sorrento, and spent a day on the island of Capri where they took a guided boat around the island. Mr. Pagotto was an especially useful chaperone due to his extensive knowledge of Italian food and the language from his study abroad in Bologna during college. He even took the group to the “best” pizza place in all of Italy, Michele’s in Naples.  The excursion was Julianne Frisbie’s second art trip to Europe; she took a group of 17 students and five adults to Italy over Spring Break last year.
