In 1968, Blair Academy and the Stowe School in England established the Blair-Stowe golf exchange, now known as the Blair-Wellington exchange. Every other year, eight American schoolboy golfers travel to England (and sometimes Scotland) to play three weeks of golf on some of England’s finest courses. In turn, during the alternate year, eight British golfers come to the United States, spending time at various boarding schools and playing some of America’s best courses. In addition to superb golf opportunities for the participants, these trips abroad afford the participants new cross-Atlantic friendships and cultural appreciation.
It was the British contingency’s turn to travel to the States this year. The golfing guests arrived on April 10 and will be staying with faculty around campus and dining with the Blair community this week, as they play matches in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The British golfers and chaperones include the following: Sam Best, Jake Collis, Gordon Curtis, Johnny Durrant, Tom McPhail, Richard Pentecost, Lewis Sturdy, James Walker, Mr. Ian Henderson and Mr. Martin Priestly.
