Blair Players Take on Roles of Charlie Brown & Gang

The Blair Academy Players will present “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” on May 7 and 8 at 4 p.m. in the Robert J. Evans Open Air Theatre. (DuBois Theatre in the case of inclement weather.) Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students.

The musical is based on The Comic Strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz and written by Clark M. Gesner, with additional music and dialogue by Michael Mayer and Andrew Lippa. Charlie Brown (played by senior Hudson Taylor) and Snoopy (played by senior Molly McAdoo) experience all the travails and fun associated with the classic comic strips, including how to talk to the little red-headed girl, how to fly a kite, how to win a baseball game, and how to defeat the Red Baron. Charlie Brown is joined by the crabby Lucy Van Pelt (senior Faith Evans) who offers her psychiatric advice and criticism, as well as the blanket-toting Linus Van Pelt (senior Jonathan Slawson). Lucy’s unrequited crush Schroeder (senior Jonathan Kruse) still plays Beethoven on the piano, while Sally Brown (senior Lauren Ricciardi) battles the authority of her school.

Student directors are junior Meg Fry and sophomore Avery Young. Musical direction is by Chris Eanes, and the orchestra is directed by Dana Williams. Technical director is Wayne Rasmussen. The play is directed by Craig Evans.

The play includes the popular music “Suppertime” and “Happiness” and is a perfect theatrical experience and a nice way to spend a spring afternoon. The Open Air Theatre is on the Blair campus overlooking Blair Lake. Last year the Players opened the theatre with Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town,” so this year’s show will be the first musical performed there.
