Blair Students Travel to Costa Rica

In June, Spanish teachers Sara Kaufman and Diana Niemas took a group of ten students on an 11-day adventure to Costa Rica. The group traveled through much of the country, exploring the diverse landscape of beaches, mountains, volcanoes and rainforests. Some highlights of the trip included: taking a zip line canopy tour of a rain forest in northern Costa Rica; swimming by a waterfall; seeing howler monkeys up close; taking a boat ride looking for Caymans; discovering different species of plant and animal life in many of the national parks; and relaxing in hot springs at night.

In addition, five days were spent with families through a homestay program during which the group interacted with their host families and spent four hours a day studying and practicing Spanish at a school that is designed specifically for international students learning Spanish as their second language. At the end of the trip, students were ready to come back home, but they all were happy to have had the opportunity to learn more about the people and culture of Costa Rica.
