Two New Crew Boats Are Dedicated

Rowers and their families congregated near Princeton on Saturday, April 16, for the Mercer Lake Sprints, one of the largest regattas of the year with 85 schools competing. Despite the chilly temperature and the wind whipping across the lake, spirits were high and great-tasting food was in abundance in and around the Blair tent.

Current parents Jim and Diane Parra (Erica '05) hosted the tailgating party, buying the bulk of the food and champagne and manning the grill.

In between qualifying and final heats, two new fours were christened and the boats’ donors were honored for their generous support of the Blair team, which numbers over 60 rowers this year.

Headmaster Chan Hardwick, with support from parents Skip and Beth Davis (Grace ’05) and Scott and Carmen Turner (Kyle ’06), officiated at the christenings as the new shells, The Journey and Excelsior, respectively, were officially launched. It was a memorable day with many of the rowers turning in their strongest performances of the season thus far. Past parent Alan Meltzer (Max ’02), a co-donor of The Journey, was unable to attend.
