Students Visit Normandy

Tim Bacon ’06, Nick Gordon ’05, Katherine Brandwood ’05, and Evelyn Tilney ’ 05 traveled to Normandy in July. The trip, sponsored annually by Normandy Allies, is designed to teach students about D-Day and the events that followed by touring the battlegrounds, talking to veterans, and meeting French witnesses. The students were accompanied by veteran and Blair alumnus Archer Martin ’42 who helps fund the trip. Students learned not only about D-Day but also about French culture, as each student spent five nights living with a French family. Highlights of the trip included visits to Utah and Omaha Beaches, a boat trip to Pointe du Hoc, a night in Paris, and the honor of folding the flag at the American cemetery in Colleville.
