Booking It for Charity

The annual Blair Read-A-Thon, sponsored by Timken Library, is again raising funds to support both Partners in Health, a non-profit organization that provides health care in Haiti, and the Chiapas Project, which benefits the disadvantaged people of Chiapas, Mexico.

Beginning with Spring Break, students earned a penny per page for all non-assigned reading they accomplished, thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous Blair alumnus.

According to Elayne Reiner, director of the library, “The list of books that students read is extensive and diverse. The most popular titles were PrepDigital Fortress, Life of Pi, The DaVinci Code, The Devil Wears Prada and Deception Point. Science fiction and fantasy also ranked high, including The Lord of the Rings, Fires of Heaven, Timeline and Inkheart. Students also chose such classics as Macbeth, Rebecca, The Sound and the Fury, and Anna Karenina.”

As of April 14, the Read-A-Thon had raised $490; the goal to be reached by the end of the semester is $800.
