Former CIA Berlin Station Chief Speaks at Skeptics
Peter Sichel, CIA Berlin station chief during the Berlin Blockade (served 1943-59 in intelligence; first recruited into the OSS during the war) spoke on “The Role of Intelligence Agencies in The War on Terror: What Intelligence Can and Cannot Do,” in Cowan Auditorium, Tuesday, February 15, as part of the Society of Skeptics series.
According to Dr. Marty Miller, director of the Skeptics program, “Obviously, ‘intelligence’ has played a major role in our current foreign policy. Mr. Sichel was present at the creation of the Cold War and was quite a memorable speaker.”
According to Mr. Sichel, “The most fascinating question is how all the [intelligence] material that is collected reaches the customers, which includes the president of our country, the various members of the cabinet and other elements of our government. For intelligence to be useful, it must be timely, and it must not be biased in any way.”
