Museo and Barrio Study Enliven Spanish Experience

Judith Wenner, chair of the foreign languages department, reports on some student activities, both in an out of the classroom: “The upper levels of Spanish (3 and beyond) headed to New York City in May to visit the Museo del Barrio. Of particular interest was a photo exhibition, “Mexico: The Revolution and Beyond, 1910-1940,” with photos by Casasola taken during Mexico's revolution and beyond, explained to us during an hour-plus tour. Afterward, we enjoyed dining at a Latino restaurant called Don Pedro’s. We dined on three main dishes – a vegetarian tortilla, ‘ropa vieja’ or ‘old clothes’ (beef), and chicken on skewers. Everything was delicious!”

Judith added, “My Spanish 3 Honors classes carried out the ‘barrio’ (neighborhood) theme by completing research and work on a project which culminated in a ‘street fair’ feast in my classroom in May, complete with music, food, and exhibits.”
