Hollerith Series Continues

Scott L. Turner (parent of Kyle ’06), president and CEO of HMHTTC, Response, Inc. – a service company founded for the purpose of safely mitigating hazardous material incidents – was the speaker in the Herman Hollerith lecture series on May 3 in Cowan Auditorium. This lecture series, which features successful business people and entrepreneurs, is named for entrepreneur and engineer Herman Hollerith, inventor of the punch card.

Mr. Turner, who has extensive experience in hazardous material emergency response, presented a program entitled, “The Right Stuff.” His management emphasis is based on ensuring quality service for clients in a timely, safe and successful manner. He also responds to incidents as a senior coordinator for high-risk responses. Mr. Turner has served as an expert witness for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office for environmental crime cases. He has been invited to serve on several committees in the capacity of Board of Advisors, including Chemical Manufacturers Association (CHEMTREC) and New Jersey/New York Hazardous Waste Workers Training Centers, sponsored by the University of Medicine and Dentistry. Mr. Turner is a specialist instructor for both the New Jersey State Police and the Philadelphia Fire Academy. He is nationally known for his lectures, articles and training videos on the subject of safe responses to cargo tank truck emergencies.

Prior speakers in the Hollerith series include John C. Bogle ’47, founder of the Vanguard Group and president of the Bogle Financial Market Research Group; Pat and John Kennedy, business consultants; and Christopher F. McConnell, principal of The Founders Group.
