Faculty Honored for Volunteerism
Faculty members Amy and David Vachris were honored at the Warren County Human Relations Commission’s Eleventh Annual Awards Celebration in May. The purpose of the awards celebration is to honor individuals, groups, organizations and businesses that have actively promoted understanding, tolerance, appreciation and acceptance of diversity in Warren County. Dave, dean of residential life and history teacher, and Amy, a Spanish teacher, received the General/Volunteer Award for their activities with special needs children, specifically their coordination of Family Fun Day with the students of Blair’s Blue and White Key Society.
During Family Fun Day, an annual winter event for the past three years, special needs students from local schools are invited to swim in the pool at Blair, play in the gym and wrestling room and, generally, enjoy a day of fun and food with the Blair community. Blair’s Blue and White Key Society members sponsor the activity; this year nearly 30 local students participated.
