Students Return from Vietnam and Cambodia

Seven students and two faculty members recently returned from a three week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Both fun and educational, the trip focused on the history and culture of the region while introducing the students to the distinction between “travel” and “tourism.” Highlights included: exploring the old quarter of Hanoi; sea kayaking in Halong Bay; playing with kids at an orphange in Hue; visiting a number of Vietnam War related sites along the DMZ; crawling through the Cu Chi Tunnels; drinking watermelon juice at Kim’s Cafe in Saigon; climbing through the jungle covered temple of Te Prohm in the Angkor complex of Cambodia; and watching ‘fireworks’ with buddhist monks in the countryside outside of Siem Reap. Participants were: Eric Kim ’05, Lauren Anderson ’05, Alex Auger ’07, Raissa Hoffman ’07, Chris Palmisano ’06, Ryan Class ’07, Thomas Evans ’06, and faculty members Quint Clarke and Jason Beck.
