News & Events 2005-2006 Art in the News
Fine Arts Department Chair Rita Baragona is pleased to report the following: Blair students took home many prizes as a result of their participation in the Warren County division of the Congressional Student Art Competition. Arlana Egan won first place for her “Shell” (right) in colored pencil, JP Bowditch won second for his “Self-portrait” in oils and Rachel Tarrats won third for her “Abused Children on the Porch” (below) in oils. I entered those New Jersey students who qualified, including Emily Catalano, Hannah Kirkpatrick, Erik Wilburn, Mary Casella, Tallerie Thurgood, Kathy Kim and Lauren Weinstein. The work will be on display and awards will be presented May 15 at Warren County Community College. Arlana’s work will go on to the next round of judging, culminating – if she wins – in representing New Jersey in an exhibit in Congress in Washington, D.C.
Rita noted other art successes as well: In the Warren County Teen Arts competition, Hannah Kirkpatrick’s “Shell” and Lauren Weinstein’s “Still Life with Paint Tubes” were selected to go on to the New Jersey State Teen Arts on May 24 and 25. The student works on exhibit were by Erik Wilburn, Rachel Tarrats, Emily Catalano, JP Bowditch, Kathy Kim, Chris Dodd, Natessa Amin, Anne Newall, Lynn Chien and Eli West. Posted 5/15/06
