A Brief History...

In 1908, when she was 17, Ellen Belet was hired at Blair Academy
as the bookkeeper of the school laundry for 10 cents an hour.
Her ten hour days consisted of doing the books and ironing petticoats
for the girls. When the laundry closed in 1954, Miss Ellen was promoted
to manager of the bookstore, soon named “Miss Ellen's Bookstore.”
She endeared herself to generations of students over her 73 years of service to
Blair Academy, which ended with her death in 1981.
